Deep Conditioning Do's and Don'ts

A few days ago we explored the types of treatments that are best for curls. You've identified the right deep conditioner for your curl's unique needs - now how can you get the most out of it? Follow Ouidad's Do's and Don'ts for deep conditioning, for your softest, shiniest, healthiest curls ever.

DO start with a clean slate. Before any treatment, cleanse hair with a clarifying shampoo such as Water Works Clarifying Shampoo or Superfruit Renewal Clarifying Cream Shampoo to remove build-up, which will help your treatment penetrate better.

DO use a wide-tooth comb or our Double Detangler to remove knots and distribute conditioner evenly from roots to ends.

DO rinse out conditioner completely. The exception: If your ends are extremely porous, leaving in a light coating of conditioner can help hydrate ends and prep them for styling.

DON'T treat curls right after a color service (this can compromise your color). Instead, deep condition before coloring or a haircut for healthy, beautiful results.

Go forth and be gorgeous!
